A random act of kindness is simply something done for someone else with out any expectation of anything in return. In today's climate of uncertainty and business I find we rush through our days without really connecting with our fellow citizens. We go to the store, bank, office, etc. and don't really see or affect those around us in a positive way. People are hurting and sometimes just a touch of kindness can brighten up a day.
Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is to love the Lord God and the second is to love others as He loves us. This is what has motivated me to start this blog and to reach out and touch someone with a RAoK, a random act of kindness. I have found that by doing something, however small, for someone else, brings joy into my life and perhaps into the life of the person receiving the RAoK. Try it and see what happens. I would like to post RAoKs on this blog, so if you would be so kind, send me a RAoK that you have committed.
During the month of December I have committed several RAoKs. So to get this started let me tell you about two of them.
I was walking into Costco one cold afternoon and saw a women who was crippled and walked with a cane coming into the store at the same time. My RAoK was simply to get her a shopping cart and take it to her. Her look of appreciation was all the thanks I needed.
Another day, I was going into Walmart. The women greeting everyone at the door kept coughing repeatedly and was having trouble talking. She said her throat was very dry. We have a Subway in our Walmart and I simply went over to the counter and asked for a glass of water. I took it back to the coughing Walmart Greeter and gave it to her. She was very surprised and again my day was brightened by such a simple act. I hope her day was brightened too.
That's it, so simple. I try to commit RAoK's on complete strangers, it is really fun as they don't expect it and are usually quite surprised. However, don't forget your family and your friends too. Today is December 31st, 2009, today I will try to commit another RAoK on some unsuspecting person, I will keep you posted.
